Ride off the beaten path through the medina and the palm grove to make your way towards Dar El Sadaka. Visit the incredible world of Jean-Francois Fourtou’s sculpture park in Dar El Sadaka, where the artist’s pieces are exposed, such as “The House Fallen From the Sky” and “The Giant’s House” before concluding your three-wheeled adventure back to town
The insider will meet you at our starting point close to Bab Doukkala, along the walls of the Medina on the new town side. Look for the brown gate, which should be open when you show up and a long ochre wall. You can enjoy a coffee or tea if you arrive early and maybe take a sneak peek in our garage.
Perusing a vintage map together, your Insider will familiarize you with the city’s layout, and discuss your itinerary with you, as well as any specific interests or requests. Just as each client is individual, so too is each Insider, so you can expect a highly engaging experience, personalized with memories, anecdotes and tidbits of knowledge – making every ride utterly unique, removed from well-trodden tourist trails and respectful of locals and their culture.
You’ll be provided with a helmet and given a safety briefing, before setting off on your sidecar adventure. Afterwards, your Insider will deliver you back to your hotel, or to a location of your choice in downtown Marrakech.
All that’s left to do is to choose your ride…
—————
Venture beyond the medina and the Palmeraie (palm grove) to Dar El Sadaka, a sculpture park actualised by the French artist Jean-Francois Fourtou. Your visit is even more unique because the property – the name of which means ‘friendship’ or ‘charity’ – is not open to the public, but only visited by those traveling with an Insider, or booking the property’s entire 9-bedroom accommodation for a minimum of three nights.
Prepare to have your perceptions skewed and your impressions tilted in this 25-acre site, which was originally bought by the artist’s family with a view to creating a family home. Jean-François Fourtou, who studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, delights in recreating visions from childhood and dreams – for example ‘The Giant’s House’ recalls the feeling of being a child in a relative’s home where everything seems huge, and where you are dwarfed by objects as basic as a toilet seat. ‘The House fallen from the Sky’ is a disconcerting journey into a dream of a house, quite literally, falling from the sky, with details – topsy-turvy as they are – lovingly recreated. Wander the grounds to discover other-worldly shapes hanging from trees and an army of sculpture-workers tending the vegetable plots, which provide the basis of meals at the property’s private rental.
